Aviamech Flight Simulators have a very long lifecycle – our FNPT2 MCC devices work very hard and with correct maintenance can operate over an extended period.
We are currently re-commissioning a simulator that was the fifth simulator we built and was installed in Heidelburg, back in 2007. From there the simulator was moved to Vereeniging and received a major upgrade to its hardware and software.
When a simulator is moved or upgraded new documentation, known as the master qualification test guide (or MQTG), must be produced and approved by the South African Civil Aviation Authority.
From Vereeniging the simulator was moved to Brakpan where it stayed until Aviamech de-commissioned it and brought it to their workshop in Midrand at the beginning of 2026.
It’s next lease of life will see it installed in a state-of-the-art simulator facility operated by Alt Academy in Kempton Park. Before then in will receive another major upgrade to bring it to our latest build standard. This includes re-wiring, updated electronics, new software and new flight models.
Once complete the simulator will continue to train pilots and continue earning revenue for its new owner, as it has done for almost two decades!
