During 2025 Aviamech completed a specialised project for Airlink involving the refurbishment of a cabin door trainer used in crew training.
Aircraft-specific door trainers allow cabin crew to practise the operation of aircraft doors and associated control mechanisms, enabling both normal and emergency procedures to be rehearsed in a controlled environment.
Without such devices, some training would need to take place on an actual aircraft, which is costly and limits the procedures that can safely be practised.
Airlink had been using the trainer for several years, but it required an upgrade. Aviamech inspected the trainer at Airlink’s Training Centre before transporting it to the company’s Midrand workshop for refurbishment.
The work involved designing and manufacturing new components, installing new drive motors for the door control mechanism, and developing updated control software. The result is a simplified and upgraded system that can be reliably operated and maintained into the future.
